Drone start-up to represent Africa at world tech competition

Congratulations are in order for civil engineering technology start-up Delta Scan, which won the African leg of the Start-Up World Cup Pitch Competition at Africa Tech Festival that played out in Cape Town last week.

Delta Scan offers drone-based solutions to clients mostly in the engineering space, which include inspection technology and digital analysis.

By virtue of their triumph, Delta scan will represent Africa Epstein to vie for the top prize alongside 49 other entrepreneurs from around the world at the finale in San Francisco, USA.

The grand prize winner at that event, will walk away with $1-million to plough back into their business.

“I appreciate the belief the judges have in me; it helps with motivation. We’re on a good trajectory and it helps fuel the fire. We’re looking forward to taking this to the global stage,” said Darryl Epstein, Delta scan Managing Director.

“Delta Scan uses drone technology to transform the time-consuming and costly task of gathering information to inspect infrastructure – think bridges, buildings etc – and performing a real-time health check on these assets.

“In the engineering world inspections are flawed, and mostly it’s an art of guesswork. But using drone technology, which captures data, which is then used to build a 3D model, we can analyse a building in a matter of minutes – which would usually take weeks for an engineering company to complete. The 3D analytical model is so precise it can see an ant on a building.

And the company expressed its pride and joy on winning the award on its social media pages.

“We are thrilled to announce that Delta Scan has emerged victorious in the African leg of the Start-up World Cup at Africa Tech Festival 2023,” said Delta Scan.

“A big shoutout to our incredible Directors, Darryl Epstein and Dayle Pedro, for their visionary leadership and dedication. Their hard work has propelled us to this milestone, and we couldn’t be prouder of what Delta Scan has achieved so far.

“The journey doesn’t end here. Delta Scan is now gearing up to make waves on the global stage as we head to San Francisco in December for the prestigious global final (where we will) showcase ourselves to some of the world’s most influential names in tech, investment, and venture capital experts.

“This is just the beginning of an exciting chapter for Delta Scan, and we can’t wait to share our innovative solutions with the world.”

Epstein’s company beat competition from eight other start-ups that offered solutions including innovative education solutions, mobile money apps, job recruitment and a beauty app and solution from Kenya that connects beauticians and clients together in a seamless environment that rewards loyalty from all stakeholders.

“It was a tough call but we had to make sure the winner could put their business on the global stage,” said Judge Zachariah George, from Launch Africa Ventures.

In agreement, Keshni Morar, founder and CEO of Investable, added; “It was no easy feat standing here in a room with a strange audience, so well done. We need to get you guys on a global stage for Africa.”

Congratulations, Delta Scan. We hope you kill it at the global finals.
