American smart airspace security company Dedrone has launched what it says is an all-in-one kit that offers comprehensive drone detection, tracking, and identification capabilities (DTI) on the go.

To be used for commercial and military anti-drone applications worldwide (we are more interested in the commercial part), the company has called this latest piece of hardware and software DedronePortable, and it not immediately clear to us how it is different from the DedroneRapidResponse, another mobile counter drone technology solution released a few months back.

(Spoiler; Dedrone did explain that the difference between these two solutions is that DedroneRapidResponse works to keep the airspace clear at outdoor gatherings, like sports stadiums and other related arenas, while the new implement seems to have no limit to the type of airspace it can monitor; as long it is hitched to anything mobile, it is in business).

Be that as it may, the company says DedronePortable offers Dedrone’s sophisticated machine learning counter drone technology and end-to-end unauthorised drone defeating capabilities through a system that can be set up in less than 20 minutes.

“Rapidly changing airspace security situations require easily-transported and -operational counter-drone systems, and DedronePortable is built to thrive in these hectic and/or temporary environments,” said Aaditya Devarakonda, CEO of Dedrone. “With its robust equipment and constant technological updates, DedronePortable is poised to play a key role in current and future operations around the globe.”

In a statement, Dedrone added that DedronePortable could be combined with DroneDefender (a non-kinetic, sUAS countermeasure implement that uses radio frequency waves to jam drones flying in authorised places) to not only detect and track unauthorised drones but also deny and disrupt the RF bands used by most commercial and military drones, and across the GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, Galileo, SBAS, and QZSS geo-location bands.

“These capabilities ensure that even military or homemade RC controllers, along with commercially available drones, can be detected and mitigated.” Dedrone said. “Additionally, DedronePortable can be equipped with the ability to deliver disinformation to the enemy through deliberate drone spoofing capability if required for combat situations.”

If you were to ask us our personal opinion, companies that exist to solely thwart technology should not exist – but then neither should criminals. Society does unfortunately suffer from humans with criminal tendencies, that can use new technologies like drones to achieve unlawful ends; hence the proliferation of anti-drone technology solutions like the one Dedrone has just launched.

Portable, petite and highly mobile as it is, the DedronePortable has been touted to contain all drone detection capabilities found in larger hardware; which includes sensors, power supply, cables, a ruggedised laptop pre-loaded with the DedroneTracker and the drone identification database DedroneDNA, and more come pre-packaged in easy to transport and assemble kits.
