Japanese inspection drone maker enters the Nordic market

Terra Drone Inc., the Tokyo-based inspection drone developer has announced its entry into the Nordic market, with the signing of a sales and distribution agreement with Norwegian industrial drone company UAS VOSS AS for its indoor inspection drone, the Terra Xross 1.

Under the agreement, UAS VOSS AS – which provides industrial drone solutions for inspection applications – will distribute the Terra Xross 1 across the Nordic region, targeting sectors including hydropower, power transmission and distribution, and offshore energy.

According to Terra Drone, the Terra Xross 1 is designed for indoor inspections in confined or hazardous environments, providing stable indoor flight at a price approximately one-third of comparable products.

“UAS VOSS is very excited to be working with Terra Drone. We have high expectations for the Terra Xross 1 and future Terra Drone products,” said Kenneth Kleppe, CEO of UAS VOSS AS.

“The Terra Xross 1 is a drone that can compete with leading brands in the existing market, while offering a more attractive price point and innovative solutions for new markets. We believe there is great potential as a distributor in the Nordic region, and we look forward to future developments based on excellent products and a good collaboration with Terra Drone.”

Sending drones for indoor inspections can reduce the need for manual entry into high-risk areas and improve inspection efficiency and cost performance compared with traditional methods.

Norway generates around 90 percent of its electricity from renewable sources, primarily hydropower. This creates ongoing demand for inspection and maintenance of power plants, substations, turbine halls, cable tunnels, and related infrastructure.

The country also has a large oil and gas sector, accounting for about 60 percent of petroleum goods exports in 2024, numerous of which are produced in offshore fields.

These sectors require inspections in confined and potentially hazardous spaces, including offshore facilities and indoor energy infrastructure, where drone-based solutions are increasingly being considered.

Founded in 2022, UAS VOSS supplies industrial drone systems equipped with specialised inspection sensors. The company has worked on smart grid and infrastructure inspection projects and serves clients in the power and offshore industries.

In 2025, UAS VOSS received the “Best Specialty Drone Operator 2025 – Norway” award at the Scandinavian Business Awards hosted by EU Business News. The company has also announced plans to expand its offshore drone inspection services by 2026.

The Terra Xross 1

Entering the confined space inspection drone market that has been dominated by Flyability’s Elios 3 so far, the Xross 1 was launched in Japan and in the USA in February last year, promising stable flights in tough conditions at a price nearly one-third lower than competitors.

The drone reportedly stays stable using visual odometry and LiDAR, meaning it can operate smoothly in GPS-denied environments without advanced piloting skills.

In addition to the below features, the Terra Xross 1 comes with a cloud-based platform, Terra Xross Cloud, for seamless 3D data management and sharing.

  • Rock-solid stability in tough conditions: Many indoor drones rely on cameras alone for navigation, but that can fail in dark or dusty areas. The Terra Xross 1 combines LiDAR and visual odometry sensors, allowing it to estimate its position even when visibility is poor. That means no drifting, no crashes, just smooth flights.
  •  Priced at under $25,000: High-end indoor drones often cost a fortune, limiting their adoption. Terra Drone says it cut costs through in-house development, which allows it to offer the Terra Xross 1 for about a third of the price of similar drones.
  • Fly longer with a tethered power module: Most indoor drones run out of battery fast, making long inspections frustrating. The Terra Xross 1 supports both battery and tethered power, allowing continuous flight without worrying about power loss. Say goodbye to mid-inspection landings!
  •  4K camera and LED lights: Equipped with a 4K camera that tilts 180° vertically, this drone captures every detail, whether looking up at a ceiling or down into a confined space. Built-in LED lights ensure clear visibility even in total darkness.
  •  Instant data sharing via Terra Xross cloud: Inspection teams need fast, accurate data. By uploading footage to Terra Xross Cloud, users can visualize data in 3D, manage point cloud scans, and share findings instantly. That means quicker decisions and smoother workflows.

The Terra Xross 1 is designed for various industries, making inspections easier and safer for oil and gas plants, bridges, and tunnel.

Further, the drone can be used to map underground mines for excavation planning or assess damage to collapsed buildings after a disaster. The drone can also be used to monitor government and public facilities.
