Drones helps locate lonely child
We all know the physical toll the coronavirus pandemic has inflicted on the world, claiming over 2,7million lives from the nearly 124million who have caught the virus so far.
We would do well to be rid of this disease, whose emotional toll on is a story that is not told often enough.
Because in Oregon, the Polk County Sherrif’s Department had to fly two drones to search for a thirteen-year-old boy whose child had apparently disappeared from home late in the afternoon last Saturday.
“Polk County Sheriff’s Office responded to a Zena Rd. address on the report of a missing child,” the Sherriff’s office said in a post on its Facebook page. “The caller reported their 13-year-old son was missing. Family members had searched the residence and rural property without locating him.”
“Once Deputies arrived on scene, they launched a small drone to scan the property, which was partially wooded. Deputies also searched the residence and outbuildings again. Initial searches were unsuccessful in locating the child.
“Polk County Search and Rescue was activated and responded to the scene. Shortly after, another Deputy arrived with a larger drone that has FLIR (forward looking infrared) capabilities.”
And apparently, this drone’s cool infrared imagery superpowers were strong and magical enough to see through the thicket.
“The child was located with the drone, sitting in a heavily wooded area not far from the residence. He told Deputies he ran away from home because he was upset about not being able to attend school, sports, and spend time with friends due to COVID.
“The child was evaluated by medics on scene and reunited with his family.”
