Apparently the Botswana government has woken up to the potential drone technology has for its economy.

They launched a delivery drone service in collaboration with Dutch drone maker Avy just in May; and now they have followed that up with a full-fledged drone training centre.

With a home at the campuses of the Botswana University of Agriculture and Natural Resources, the new Drone Technology and Drone Training Centre was officially launched by Botswana’s Vice President Slumber Tsogwane, who reiterated the importance drone technology in augmenting human endeavours.

As of now, there is no information on when the centre will open to students, how many students will be allowed in first, or whether they will be graduating with certificates, diplomas or degrees; but the vice president in his speech said his country can only succeed by embracing technology.

“Drone Technology launch fulfils our country’s objective as espoused in the National Vision 2036, Economic Recovery and Transformation Strategy to drive a knowledge-based economy,” Tsogwane said.

He added that the drone technology graduates will be using drones in sectors such as Agriculture, Disaster relief, Real estate and construction, Law enforcement and boarder control, Geographic mapping of inaccessible locations, delivery of essential medication in remote areas, as well as Anti-poaching and wildlife conservation among many as one of the key drivers of the 4th industrial revolution initiatives.
